THE FOUNDERS

THE FOUNDERS

Harkness is a dialogue between sisters, Phoebe and Georgina, two best friends who share a deep love for creative expression. They are driven by the shared belief that a single piece of jewellery can fundamentally shift how a person feels, providing an internal confidence that allows them to take on the world. To them, the fact that an object so small can hold such immense power is incredible; the opportunity to facilitate that feeling is what excites them most.

The brand is the result of two decades of combined expertise. Phoebe holds a Bachelor of FineArts in Gold and Silversmithing and spent over ten years at the bench as a fine jeweller and designer. Georgina, with a decade of Management Consulting experience, provides the commercial lens that brings the brand’s artistic visions to life. Together, they represent a perfect synergy of skillsets grounded in a healthy respect for the artistry and the business of fine jewellery.

Launched in 2024, Harkness is based between New York City and Melbourne

“There is art in seeing the beauty in the imperfect. The off-balance. Art should make you think. It should challenge norms.” - Phoebe Harkness

DESIGN INSPIRATION

DESIGN INSPIRATION

The primary source of inspiration at Harkness is nature. As a deeply observant artist who has spent her career immersed in the industry, Phoebe now “thinks in jewellery”. Every design serves as a journal entry - a way to rein terpret and share the beauty she sees in the world. Whether it is the patterns of a feather or the reflection of light on a road after rainfall, these quiet, often overlooked moments are preserved forever in precious materials.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Harkness explores the concept of “organised chaos” through mismatched stones, asymmetry, and forms that feel uneven yet perfectly balanced. This aesthetic is rooted in the belief that jewellery is art liberated from the frame - unconfined by the four walls of a gal lery or home. These are small-scale functional sculptures, meticulously refined to be worn, felt on the skin, and lived in daily.

THE LEAN-IN EFFECT

THE LEAN-IN EFFECT

What moves Phoebe and Georgina most is what they call the “Lean-In Effect.” It is that unconscious, physical moment when someone is so taken by a unique detail or the play of light that they naturally lean in closer to investigate. The brand designs for this curiosity, creating highly detailed forms that provoke an instant, visceral connection.

PRODUCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

PRODUCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Harkness process is slow, intentional, and technically rigorous. Every design undergoes several rounds of sampling to ensure it sits perfectly on the body, with complex forms often taking over a year to finalize. This commitment to excellence extends to the materials: Harkness works exclusively with 100% recycled gold and manufactures with RJC-certified suppliers. This ensures that the beauty of each piece is matched by the integrity of its creation.
